Solar LIghts Provided to Victims of Cyclone Dineo

For more than 2 years illuminations Give Power Program has been working in collaboration with Marine Megafauna Foundation (MMF) to provide clean, safe light to families in coastal Mozambique who don’t have access to electricity. Sadly Cyclone Dineo that hit the coast of Mozambique last week, destroying homes and knocking out infrastructure – like what little power grid there was.

Previously, lights from the Give Power program went to MMF’s education and conservation programs. Today however, members of the MMF and Nemos Pequenos education team traveled out to some of the cyclone devastated communities to distribute more solar lights to anyone who needed them. There has barely been a house that was not in some way damaged from the cyclone, and many families had their homes completely destroyed. The strength and resilience that is being shown by the local communities as they come together to rebuild their homes has touched all of our hearts.

MMF and illumination are so grateful to all the customers who have purchased solar products under the program and therefore provide direct assistance to these families. They are truly giving light to communities that have already lost so much in the cyclone. Tomorrow the team will travel out to more communities to hand out more solar lights.
